These two photographs, taken a few months apart, show the impact of clear-cutting a large spruce plantation following an infestation by bark beetles. This exceptional measure contrasts with the forest management plan for Mont Beuvray, which aims to transform conifer stands into mixed forests of conifers and broadleaf trees of varying ages, through selective logging methods that remain uncommon in the Morvan. Natural regeneration is also encouraged, although this proves challenging on large clear-cut areas. The removal of vegetation has nonetheless revealed part of the hillside, which is intended to remain visible as an open space.
