This close-up shows the main mosaic pavement, composed of a network of octagons, from a triclinium (dining room) in the large domus PC1 at the oppidum of Bibracte (Mont Beuvray, Burgundy, France). The use of a triclinium, where people dined reclining on couches, reflects the adoption of Roman cultural and social practices by the elite of the Aedui, whose capital was Bibracte. The refined architectural decoration of such spaces was likely carried out by craftsmen trained in Italy.
