Copper alloy decorated model axe probably dating to the Roman period. The axe is flat and the head is a curved triangle in shape with a shaft attached (although only the upper part of this survives). The surface of the axehead is quite worn but one side has a small incised circle with a saltire (cross) inside it. Two very similar examples, one found in East Anglia, have been published in Hattatt’s ‘Ancient Brooches and other Artefacts’ Fig. 36, Nos. 240 & 241.The axehead weighs 1.72g and measures 23.1mm in length, 13.2mm in width and 2.3mm in thickness.
