A miniature copper-alloy axe of probable 2nd to 4th century AD date (I.M.Stead and V.Rigby, 1986, p.136). The piece is three dimensional, with a wedge-shaped blade; narrower, waisted central section and a wider "attachment" end. This latter element is particularly poorly moulded, as is the top edge of the piece, adding weight to the theory that this was a symbollic rather than functional item.It measures 22.6mm long by 16.2mm high and 10mm thick. It weighs 13.25g.
