In mourning symbolism, symbols of rest and peace became popular and consoling options. A popular flower frame design for funerals that alluded to rest was the Star and Crescent. The star, when together with the crescent, was symbolic of the sleep of a pure and innocent soul. As such, this design was specifically suited to infants, but it appeared at funerals of all ages and genders. Symbols such as this were popular because they create a sense of comfort by implying the loved one is at rest from the struggles of daily life. Both the star and the crescent also appeared separately or with other symbols in funeral tributes.
