The Portable Antiquities Scheme

A hammered silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603). The coin is from the 3rd and 4th issue and is dated 1563, that in turn is supported by the mint mark of a pheon to both sides. The obverse has the portrait bust facing left with a rose in the field behind the head. The reverse has the square-topped shield on long cross fourchée with date above.The coin is in fair condition being struck slightly off centre, heavily worn and a lightly buckled, with limited clipping to the rim.
