This is an example of a hammered silver penny of Edward I (1272-1307), in this case, from the new coinage, beginning in 1279. The obverse has the portrait facing with a pellet on the chest; the reverse has the long cross pattée with three pellets in each quadrant.This coin is from the London mint and is in poor condition with cracks and chips to the rim.
