The Portable Antiquities Scheme

A miniature Medieval gold openwork lozenge shaped brooch dating from the 13th to 14th century. The brooch consists of a thin lozenge-shaped frame with four integrally cast and evenly spaced collets wit a moulded ridge each side. Three of the four collets contain a small green stone, possibly emerald. There is a constriction at one angle which contains the intact pin. The reverse is undecorated.Similar examples can be seen on the database - NLM-D6FC71 and DOR-F31C46.The brooch is 15.5mm long, 15.5mm wide, 2.4mm thick and weighs 0.94 grams.
