A silver penny of Coenwulf, 796-821 AD, of Group 1 without portrait, circa 796-805 AD in date (North p64, no 342). Martin Allen of the Fitzwilliam comments that Rory Naismith has recorded 16 other coins of this type, mint and moneyer in his very comprehensive MPhil dissertation on the coinage of Coenwulf, but this is the first recorded coin with this unusual arrangement of the reverse inscription. All of the other coins have the letters SEBERHT arranged in a conventional manner.
