Incomplete medieval copper alloy sheet buckle plate, the trapezoidal front part, broken across the fold and with parts of the sides and the narrower inside edge missing. There are frame recesses, a pin slot and four rivet holes. Decoration comprises a single engraved contour line, two pairs of longitudinal lines flanking the pin slot, four triplets of triangular cells inlaid with red enamel set in a square with rivet holes as the corners, within this square another formed from rocker-arm engraving, and in the centre a stamped fleur-de-lis (to be viewed with the frame to the left). 35.5 x 45 - c.35mm. c.1150 - c.1250.A similar buckle plate found in Dunwich can be found illustrated in Fingerlin (1971, 67; fig. 64); see also HAMP-F43461 on this database.
