The Portable Antiquities Scheme

Medieval one-piece strap end, formed from sheet folded widthways with wide gap at the fold, with wire hook and two separate rivets near the attachment edge. The wire is folded in half and fitted into the fold. The attachment edge is decorated with a trefoil grooved aperture (incomplete) and the front face with rocker-arm engraving, two large saltires with short lengths in the angles. 25mm x 32mm, the hook projecting 11mm. 15th - early 16th century.
