Roman copper alloy ovoid vessel escutcheon with integral loop set at right angles, flat slightly curving inner face and convex outer face. There is now no trace of the solder on the inner face which would have attached the object to the vessel. Below the springing of the loop a human bust has been rather crudely executed in counter-relief by engraving. Height 42.5mm. Width 30.5mm. Dates to the 1st - 4th century.
