1350
Lead alloy possible Ampulla fragment. Cast fragment from an object with pronounced ridged or ribbed decoration of its curving edge; according to this identification, projecting material to either side may represent all that remains of the body of a hollow miniature vessel. The ribbing gives way to a looped design at one end, and is torn and distorted at the other. The design may derive from the cockle shell motif favoured for ampulla-shaped pilgrim badges. Patinated overall. Suggested date: Late Medieval, 1350-1500.Length: 30.5mm, Width: 8.8mm, Thickness: 8mm, Weight: 7.90gms
