Copper alloyPossible Awl. Cast square-section shank with one pointed end, a mid-shaft expansion, and a flattened, possibly spatulate, end. Both ends are slightly bent, probably recently, while the surface is pitted by (inactive) corrosion overall. The early dating offered is necessarily speculative, but the finder has also recently reported a miniature axe head of Early Bronze Age form from the vicinity. That find was in similar pitted condition, though Roman finds from the site do not show such distinctive corrosion. Suggested date: Early Bronze Age, 2150-1500 BC.Length: 38.7mm, Width: 7.7mm, Thickness: 5.1mm, Weight: 3.66gms.
