Sadiq Khan leads Akbar's forces against the army of Raja Madhukar in the Orchha forest, folio from the History of Akbar (Akbarnama) by Abu’l-Fazl. Detached folio, ink, pigments and gold on paper, Persian text and full-page painting inscribed to Khan Karan, Agra, India, c. 1603-1605. This is one of fifty-eight folios now detached from its codex (Chester Beatty In 03). Extensively illustrated, these form volume two and part of volume three of the biography of the Mughal emperor Akbar (r. 1556-1605), composed by his court historian and minister Abu’l-Fazl `Allami.
