Logs on the Move - For the first time in 30 years a drive of 12-foot-high white pine logs was released into the Rapid river, Maine, to float down to the plants of Brown Co., pulp and paper products, at Berlin, N.H. Right-hand picture shows the beginning of the drive. The logs are moving into the dam, which is under the wooden building in the picture. The lower left hand photo shows the logs racing down the sluiceways into the Rapid river. At upper left, Laurence F. Whittemore (in checked shirt), president of Brown Co., inspects the start of the drive from a raft.
