Herdsman Winds His Horn. It takes a lot of wind to call the cattle home from the Alpine pastures of the Gruyere district of Switzerland when this giant wooden horn is used. The herdsman blowing it is wearing traditional costume, in which he arrayed himself for a festival held in that district recently.

Reservoir Ruptured--A reservoir high up in the Baldwin Hills area of Los Angeles burst with a roar today, sending a great wall of water flooding down on homes and apartments below. An estimated 200 homes were wiped out completely. The dam began leaking before noon and police went through the area ordering the homes evacuated. Because of this action there were but two or three persons reported dead. The water surged through Cloverdale, across Coliseum St. and Rodeo Road and trapped shoppers in commercial stores along Jefferson Blvd.
