Podophora atrata

Podophora atrata is a species of sea urchins from the Echinometridae family spread on the seaside shores, swept by the waves, of the Western Indo-Pacific, especially on the shores of Hawaii. This hedgehog is usually found on substrates completely exposed to the waves, therefore the upper surface of the body is a mosaic of small polygonal plates formed by modified thorns to form a kind of smooth shield. The copy is part of the old museum collection and was purchased by Grigore Antipa.
