Whistler, James McNeill, 1834-1903 · [1875–1877]
A young woman sits facing to the left, playing a piano, the form of which is merely suggested. The heavy background in the upper part of the plate has been reduced. A series of fine diagonal lines in the right background runs between the shoulder and the waist. Slanting lines partly cross the left sleeve at the elbow. On an impression in Mr. Benedict's collection, "Miss Tinnie Greaves," is in Whistler's writing apparently.
