Here and Now, Healthiest Counties in WI, A report released today tells us the healthiest and least healthy places to live in Wisconsin. The UW Department of Population Health ranks all Wisconsin Counties from the most healthy to the most unhealthy. Dr. Pat Remington is the co-author of the study. (W/ full-screen graphic), Chronic Wasting Disease, This year's nine-day gun deer season in Wisconsin starts this Saturday, but some hunters were out a month ago in the southwest part of the state. That earlier hunt taking place in areas where there is Chronic Wasting Disease in the deer herd. Art Hackett reported on this week's 'In Wisconsin' on the state's five-year effort to check the spread of CWD. Wisconsin Deer Hunting Season, This weekend thousands of hunters blaze their way into the woods. Some will be 50-year veterans. Some, like our next guest, will be hunting for their second season. She bagged a big one last year when she was 12. This year, like last, and like seasons to come, she will join her parents and grandparents on her grandpa's property in Buffalo County. In fact, 13-year-old Julie Austin leaves for the deer hunt as soon as our interview is finished. People talk about what their plans are for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Edward Flynn, the former Springfield, Massachusetts Police Commissioner, had unanimous support from Milwaukee's Fire and Police Commission and Mayor Tom Barrett to become Milwaukee's new Chief of Police. Georgia Thompson was back in the news this week. Georgia Thompson is the state worker who was convicted of illegal steering state travel contracts to a private firm. Her conviction, however, was overturned. Governor Jim Doyle joined five other Midwest state governors in Milwaukee to sign an accord to lower emissions in their states that contribute to global warming. What Would Betty Sue Do?, When he's not writing songs for 'Here and Now', our singing commentator, Peter Leidy, travels quite a bit, all over Wisconsin. He says he met a couple in Door County last weekend. They were named Jim and Betty Sue. They all got to talking in a classic Wisconsin tavern. Pete says he came away from the conversation seeing things just a little differently and he discovered a few things that he's thankful for this holiday season.
