The Alabama Experience; With Fingers of Love

The Freedom Quilting Bee was established in 1966 after Reverand Francis X Walter saw some quilts hanging outside a come in Wilcox county, Alabama. Quilter Mindar Coleman suggested to Father Walter that a co-op be started, and the rest is history. Soon the business grew far beyond Father Walter purchasing the quilts for $10 a piece. The quilts blew up and hit the national market. Over time, the quilts were used in art and fashion projects including being sold in Bloomingdale's and having an exhibit for the quilts at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.. Piece highlights the history of the Freedom Quilting Bee, the women involved, how the buisness grew into what it is today, and more. A series that focuses on bringing to life the inspiring stores and empowering characters that have helped form Alabama's past and are working to shape its future.
