Trustman, Benjamin A., Trustman, Julia M. · 1864
Some people have taken the train during the winter and are freezing in the car. CROQUIS D'HIVER and CROQUIS D'HIVER, - par H. Daumier. (Winter sketches). A series of a total of 10 prints of which 5 were published in the CHARIVARI between February 7, 1854 and November 26, 1858 and 5 were published in the JOURNAL AMUSANT, then in the PETIT JOURNAL POUR RIRE between December 3 and December 24, 1864. This print has been produced following the system GILLOTAGE. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has a very rare sample of the print on "papier mince". At the lower side we can see the handwritten suggestion for the caption, most likely written by the printer. We assume this rare print is still a lithograph (although it already carries the name Gillot) before it was used to produce a gillotage.
