The Seattle Symphony Orchestra, led by Gerard Schwarz, commissioned "Tableaux (after Kandinsky)". Lazaorf admired Kandinsky's work and the idea of abstractionism. We know that Lazarof travelled across Europe to personally view Kandinsky's art before he began composing this piece. The composition is written for solo piano and orchestra. Throughout the work, various rhythmic patterns move the music foward. Based on the materials in this folder, we know that Lazarof began working on Tableaux in early Sept 1986 in Los Angeles and completed the piece in May 1987 whilehe was in Switzerland.
