Sculptor Allan Houser is the Dean of Native American art. Houser's life is characterized by innovation and he has thus served as an inspiration for generations of Native American artists. His work is powerful and simple, portraying the noble aspects of the American Indian--a heritage he knows well. Houser is Chiricahua Apache. His father served as Geronimo's interpreter when the Apaches were forced to move from southern New Mexico to Oklahoma. It is his fiercely independent spirit and his competitive drive that personify his vast and renowned body of work.
