Plate: First Methodist Church of Newton

2 identical plates, ceramic, white and black, on base an image of the first methodist church from the side and the front surrounded by trees, base reads "First Methodist Church of Newton Newton Upper Falls, Massachusetts, Organized 1832" and "Front View" in black paint, what looks like gold residue around rim, on base of plate text typed in black reads "The original building and land for the First Methodist Meeting House in Newton was purchased by Marshall S. Rice in 1832. In July of that year, the first Methodist sermon was preached by Rev. Charles K. True, in September - the first Sunday School class was formed and on November 11 1832, the church was formally organized with Rev. Abraham Merrill administering baptism and the sacrament and the record says that "the Meeting House was full all day and in the evening." Additions came rapidly, - the Vestry was built in 1857, the Sanctuary was remodeled in 1860, a library room was added about 1870 and in 1882, a "'Ladies' Parlor and Cook room" was erected for the Ladies' Aid Society Meetings.", Also painted on the underside of the plate is "World Wide Art Studios A Division of Atlas Crystal Works, Inc. Covington, Tennessee." with a globe and a paintbrush through it, as well as in green "Rhythm by Homer Laughlin USA H55N5" registered, small chip on edge of plate 1.
