A letter to Edward Hitchcock in which Benjamin Silliman states his recommendation that [Charles Upham] Shepard go to work with [Robert] Hare in Philadelphia, where Shepard would discover more opportunities. Silliman's letter is written on the back of a prospectus for The American Journal of Science and Arts appealing for more subscribers to the Journal.
