A letter to Edward Hitchcock in which Benjamin Silliman expresses surprise at Hitchcock's news about some gold, and confidence that the both of them can come to an arrangement with the government of Massachusetts over the printing of Hitchcock's report. Silliman also discusses his plans to include a memoir of the late Eli Whitney and a report on granite veins and rocking stones in The American Journal of Science, and thanks Hitchcock for all of the support he has given the Journal. In a postscript Silliman comments that the marriage of his eldest daughter has made him no longer feel young.
