New Mexico in Focus; International Folk Art Market and OUR LAND: Feed the Hood

This week, New Mexico in Focus looks at the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market, now celebrating its 15th anniversary. The IFAM has brought nearly 1,000 master folk artists to Santa Fe from around the world, resulting in an economic impact of millions of dollars to New Mexico. In addition, most of the money generated by artists’ sales goes to help their home communities and promote traditions that have been passed down for generations. NMiF correspondent Megan Kamerick sits down with the market's CEO and two of the artists who will be at this year's market. On this month’s episode of Our Land, NMiF correspondent Laura Paskus explores Project Feed the Hood, a food justice program in Albuquerque that connects communities with healthy food and young people with the land (and a paycheck). Begun out of the Southwest Organizing Project, a 38-year old nonprofit focused on social justice, Project Feed the Hood operates the Ilsa and Rey Garduño Community Garden, and pilot programs at ten schools. And Gene Grant and the Line opinion panelists debate President Trump’s choice of Brett Kavanaugh to fill the soon-to-be-vacated U.S. Supreme Court Justice seat, and look at how changes in the makeup of the Supreme Court might affect New Mexicans. They also look at the effect on New Mexico workers of the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on labor union dues, and discuss the mistakes made by investigators in the case of a young girl’s murder.
