_01: This is raw footage for the Documentary "New Mexico Masterpieces" for the segment on T.C. Cannon.This footage features an interview with Joan Fredericks who discusses T.C. Cannon’s art. Cannon was the first to approach Native American art in a nontraditional way. He was able to respect his past while incorporating the modern world into his art. He used influences, like Vincent Van Gogh, to help him accomplish this in the pieces he created. _02: Cannon’s intensity and his connection with his emotions and openness to share his emotions are the gifts he has given to us. _03: Joan Frederick reads a short story by Cannon. _04: A short story of Cannon’s is read and then discussed. Cannon is both his cultural past and present day. _05: Another short story by Cannon is read. This leads to a discussion about the importance of trying. Even if you know you won’t change everything, it is still important to put out the effort and to try to make a difference. _07: Cannon left us with an understanding of Native American culture through his art that wasn’t present before him. _08: The change that took place in the 1960s was very important to Native American Art History. Cannon felt these changes and knew that they were important. He was also very aware that his time was short, and he wanted to make the most of it during his lifetime.
