Medieval Fragment of figurine of Christ Crucified, probably an appliqué from an altarpiece or perhaps a furniture fitting, from a chasse (casket). Very worn and distorted. Hollow reverse. One arm is bent back behind the inclined head and may be broken across a nail / fixing hole in hand. The other is merely a stub. The lower part of the figure is missing, the ancient break running across the chest. Engraved lines depicting the hair are faintly visible. No facial features are discernible apart from the eyes that are set with red enamel or glass paste (in one only a tiny fragment survives). Surviving size 55mm x 55mm. Probably a Limoges product. 13th century.
