A Late Bronze Age to Roman (1150BC - AD410) copper alloy miniature socketed axehead of Robinson's Type IVa (Robinson, Wiltshire Archaeology Magazine 1995, p.61) with vertical parallel sides and broadly square in plan. It measures 16.6mm in length, 19mm wide (including loop), 13.8mm wide (cutting edge)9.9mm thick (socket) and 2.1mm thick (cutting edge). The miniature socketed axehead weighs 8.93 grams. The axehead is thinnest at the blade end (2.1mm thick) expanding over the length to 9.9mm at the socket. The socket measures 6.8x4.15mm (internally) and is 6.15mm deep.The C-shaped loop is cast to the side and the top. The miniature axehead narrows gradually until the loop and socket before narrowing sharply from 6.5mm to 2.1mm.
