Incomplete copper alloy miniature shield. The shield is large and incomplete, missing most of both portions above and below the shield boss. The shield is flat and was probably once square or oval in plan. The boss is depicted by a raised oval panel. The surface of the shield is decorated with four vertical rows of raised crescents, and in the bottom left hand corner there is a rivet hole. The lower left and and right hand edges are original, and are straight.Miniature shields are difficult to date although they are thought to range from circa 400BC to the mid-late 1st century AD.
