ROMAN MINIATURE OBJECT

A Roman copper alloy votive axe, dating AD 43-410. The objects is wedge shaped, narrowed and flaring at the blade edge. The object has been perforated on the wide section of the blade and is countersunk on one side. There is an oval perforation at the widest section of the edge, which corresponds with the haft on larger examples. The object is covered in a mid-brown pattination.Several similar examples can be found on the PAS database, though none have the circular, countersunk perofration as in this example.Dimensions: length: 34.68 mm; width: 15.69 mm; thickness: 7.98 mm; diameter of countersunk perforation: 7.51 mm; weight: 6.90g.
