Gold ring with oval slightly concave bezel, engraved with a coat of arms comprising a shield with a mermaid surrounded by foliate ornament (mantling) and a helmet crest. The engraving is very worn. The reverse bears a tiny indistinct and illegible stamped mark, possibly a maker's mark but not identifiable.Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface of the ring indicated a composition of approximately 96% gold, 2% silver and 2% copper.
