A sulu is a skirt worn by both men and women in Fiji. It is considered the national dress of Fiji. The police also wear a uniform that consists of a 'sulu tavatava', a zigzag skirt. In general, police skirts are white. These skirts are made to measure, have pockets and a hessian to fasten it properly around the loins. Above the sulu, a policeman wears a western shirt. Wearing a sulu expresses the Fijian identity.
