Copper alloyMount. Cast mount of concavo-convex form with two integral 6mm prongs for attachment to leather. The mount is in the form of a heart, with a fleur de lis beneath it, and may carry implicit religious connotations associated with Post-Medieval Catholicism (the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a relatively recent convention drawing on a scriptural episode, and featured in art from the Counter-Reformation period onwards; the lily is associated with Marian devotion from the later Middle Ages).
