Slightly bent round-sectioned Post-Medieval writing lead with two areas of moulded relief decoration separated by a pronounced casting seam running from immediately above the trimmed point up the full length, over the rounded top and down to the start of the point. In one area R x W above a four-linked chain motif. In the other I x W above seven chain links. On both Ws there are intersecting upstrokes and there is an additional cross bar at mid-point of the I. Length 83mm. Diameter 7mm, 8mm across the seam. Weight 29.79g. No example of a decorated writing lead has been noted. 17th – 18th century.
