Ira Blount · late 20th-early 21st Century
This origami crane features hues of blue accented with purple, white, green, black, and gold. Artist Ira Blount (1918-2020) leaves a legacy for generations to come in donating it to the Anacostia Community Museum. The crane, adorned with small flowers and butterflies, realizes the Japanese maxim “a crane lives one thousand years.” Colorfully, it carries Blount’s message about the healing power of craft into the future.
