How can ordinary objects tell extraordinary stories? On September 11, 2001, postal clerks were using this ordinary mailbag to haul mail at the Church Street Post Office that serviced the World Trade Center in New York City. Luckily no postal employees lost their lives in the terrorist attacks that day. The bag was recovered from the damaged post office; as a part of the National Postal Museum's permanent collection, this simple mail bag can be be used to tell the story of postal workers on a tremendous day in American history.
