Owney received this advertising token in the shape of a pocket watch from F. Emmerling, a jeweler living in Hillsboro, Ohio. There is no information on when Emmerling gave the token to the dog. The back side carries the advertisements for “Jas. Boss” “Keystone Watch Cases.” Watch cases were sold separately from the pocket watch. Boss Keystone cases were among the most popular watch cases. The advertisement notes that Emmerling carried this cases, including the new “non-pull-out-bow” a fastener that had been patented by Keystone Watch Case Company employee Edward Chappatte in 1891.
