The engraving department's (?) design record for the 1-dollar stamp of Queen Emma. Unlike the other records, no preliminary design was sketched. Instead, proofs of the 2- and 5-cent Hawaiian stamps of King Kamehameha IV (Hawaii Scott 31) and King Kamehameha V (color essay) were affixed on the left side of the document. Instructions cited: "To be engraved in oval style, similar to the 2-cent Hawaiian stamp of Kamehameha IV (her husband) and the 5-cent Kamehameha V. The portrait to be of the same size."
