This envelope, addressed to Hincks's father, contains a letter mentioning that it is to be transmitted through Mobile. It was probably carried to that destination by blockade runners, possibly via Nassau or some other neutral port. The letter was transmitted from Mobile to New Orleans as part of the regular Flag of Truce mail, as evidenced by the notation “ExB” on the back flap. The letter entered the U.S. mail on June 13, 1864, and was rated Ship 4 as an unpaid incoming ship letter.
