Don Bergland · 2005-02-16T00:00:00Z
A series of 12 sketches for a series based on the Redrock Canyon outside of Las Vegas, Nevada. This series was created just before Bergland’s move into the noted Sideshow surrealistic series which dominated his studio practise for the next twenty years. He had learned how to convert his early Exile style from traditional paint on canvas to digital imagery and was making one more attempt to explore the Exile aesthetic. These sketches were built using painting tools inside Adobe Photoshop. At this time, Bergland was on full-time faculty at the University of Victoria in Canada, but was teaching digital arts as an adjunct professor for Lesley University in Massachusetts. He spent weekends doing a circuit around the USA, teaching graduate courses in different cities. He had spent several sessions teaching in Las Vegas and was inspired by the scenery in Redrock Canyon. These were the inspiration for this series of sketches.
