Although the painting is worn and in some batches retouched, there is no doubt that it is a significant portrait of ter Borch performed shortly after 1656. Gudlaugsson mentions a copy of the studio (oil on canvas, 77x85) which was found in 1956 in Samling Nico H. van Heek in Enschede (Gudlaugsson, I, 1959, p. 279, No. 120 with avb; ibid., II, 1960, p. 132-133, No. 120). - * --there is some and retouching in *, there can be no wear that is a major * by ter Borch * ly after 1656.
