POST MEDIEVAL COIN

A copper-alloy double Tournois coin of Louis XIII, 1610-1643. This milled coin shows a left facing portrait on the obverse and three fluer de lis on the reverse, one below and between the upper two. The obverse legend reads FR ET NAV REX L[OVIS]XIII DG. The reverse legend reads DOVBLE TOVRN[OIS 164...]. The coin dates to either 1642-1643 but is too worn to identify more precisely. In it's worn state this coin could easily be passed off as a seventeenth century halpenny token. Die axis is 6 o'clock.
