This is a hammered silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603). This coin is from the third and fourth issue on the smaller flan and dated 1570. The obverse has the portrait bust left with rose in field behind the head. The probable bust style is 5A and the mintmark is type 74 – Coronet. The reverse has the square-topped shield on long cross fourchée with the date (1570) above.The coin has been clipped and has a silvery grey/black patina.
