Medieval coin; struck silver halfpenny of Edward I, Withers’ type 1-8, dating to the period 1280-1299. The portrait is too worn to identify the type more closely. London mint. Three pellets in each quadrantCI[VI/TA]S/LON/[DON]The coin bears some rust-coloured staining, which is probably indicative of being buried in close proximity to an iron object which has corroded away, or to being buried in iron-rich soil.
