The Portable Antiquities Scheme

A copper alloy plaque, possibly from a small box or case. The plaque has a white metal coating, probably silver, and the staining on the back suggests the plaque may have been attached to a natural substance such as shell. On the plaque is the inscription:W.W. Wood Esq Highfield HouseWilliam and his father can be seen in a portrait by Francis Wheatley dated 1787 (The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, USA).
