POST MEDIEVAL CUFF LINK

An incomplete Post Medieval copper-alloy cufflink, consisting of one of the two original cufflink 'buttons' and a portion of the link, which would have connected the two. The cufflink button has a bevelled circumference, which is embellished with a beaded ring along the lower and upper perimeter; the centre of the button is decorated with a raised portrait of a male bust facing left, with curly and long coiffured hair and simple drape at the shoulders. It measures 13 mm diameter, 4.8 mm thick (with button loop) and weighs 1.96 grams. The metal has an even brassy gold colour, including the link, with one portion of the outer surface of the button showing its dark grey core. The style of the bust is in keeping with popular styles during the reign of Charles II and also during earlier Georgian periods, suggesting that the cufflink could be dated to between c. AD 1660-1760.
