A copper alloy nummus of the Roman Empire. The obverse is very worn. The portrait of the emperor and the legend are not visible. This coin has been identified on the basis of the reverse type, an emperor with a standard dragging a captive. This is faintly visible on the reverse side. None of the reverse legend is visible but it should read GLORIA ROMANORVM. This coin dates to the House of Valentinian 364-378 AD (Reece period 19).This coin is heavy worn. Both faces have a patchy patina of red and white. There is one area of green encrustation on the reverse side. It is sub-oval in shape. The flan has a ragged outer edge where some of circumference is missing. The edge is generally smooth suggesting this is old damage.This coin is 17.87mm in diameter, it is 0.87mm thick and it weighs 1.50g.See Reece and James (2000) number 140 for an example of what this coin should look like.
